Chapter Meeting
The April meeting is open to the public and will be held at Body and Soul Community Center, located at 205 Chestnut Ridge Rd McVeytown, PA 17051. Chapter business meeting will begin at 6:15 pm and end at 7:00 pm. The featured speaker presentation will be from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm.
Presenter for our April meeting will be Jay Dunkelberger. His topic will be “Things you should know”. Jay is a chapter member from the Spring Mills area who fishes very often.

Stream Cleanup
The Chapter will be doing a stream cleanup on Penns Creek on April 11, 2026. We will be working in conjunction with the RB Winter Trout Unlimited Chapter.
Chapter members and guests will be meeting at Poe Paddy State Park (near the tunnel) at 9:00 AM and will work around the tunnel area. We will be going thru the tunnel and work towards Cherry Run access area until about 1:30 PM.
We are then invited to join RB Winter Chapter members at the Union County Sportsman’s Club.
All members are invited to join us for the cleanup. We understand that this falls during the early weeks of trout season, but we believe that showcasing our conservation efforts may pique the interest of anglers to consider joining our Chapter. Attendees are asked to bring your own gloves and waders for the cleanup.
Fly Tying Class for School Students
Chapter members will provide a beginners fly tying class for students participating in the school's T.I.C. program. Two sessions are scheduled beginning at 8:30 am (1st period - 10 students and 3rd period - 5 students).
Members interested in helping with this class should contact Larry Winey (wlwiney@embarqmail.com).
Chapter members assisting with this event must have current youth clearances (PA Criminal History Clearance and PA Child Abuse History Clearance).

Little Buffalo Women in the Wild
Chapter members will provide introduction to fly fishing (9am-10:15am and 10:30am-11:45am) and Macroinvertebrates (2:30pm-3:45am) at the Little Buffalo State Park. The featured speaker will be Mike Komara, a four-time World Fly Fishing Championship team medalist and founder of Innovative Angling, a guide service based in Central Pennsylvania. Mike will be sharing the skills and techniques learned over a decade of competing and fishing across the globe.

Annual Banquet
The Chapter's Annual Banquet will be held on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at the Belleville Christian School (formerly Belleville Mennonite School). Doors will open at 4:30 PM and dinner (turkey with all the trimmings!) at 6:00 PM. Adults $25 and Youth (less than 16 years old) $15. You can reach us via email at pennscreektu@gmail.com.
This year's banquet speaker will be educator, author, fly fishing competitor and outdoorsman, George Daniel.

Jay Dunkelberger is a chapter member from the Spring Mills area. Jay will be giving a presentation on fly fishing Penns Creek. Jay fishes extremely often and catches an incredible number of trout each year from our local streams. Jay employs contact nymphing most of the time but is not limited to just that one technique.

Reeds Gap Fall Festival
The festival celebrates the beginning of fall at Reeds Gap State Park (learn more). The Chapter will have an information station, featuring fly tying and fly casting. Chapter volunteers should arrive by 9:00 AM.

Trevor Hackenberg will be speaking about the October Caddis, which occurs on Penns Creek. He will also be giving a tying demonstration. Trevor is a young individual who works for TCO in State College. Trevor is a talented fly tyer and angler and he gets to fish with some of the most talented anglers in Central PA.

2025 PATU Annual Meeting
The Pennsylvania Council of Trout Unlimited will hold its annual meeting on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at Haywood’s on the Green in Mill Hall, PA (learn more).

Crickfest 2025
This annual community festival in Penns Valley focuses on family-friendly outdoor fun and environmental education (learn more). The Chapter will have an information station, featuring fly tying and fly casting. Chapter volunteers should arrive by 9:00 AM.
Chapter Summer Social
The Chapter is excited to announce its 2025 Summer Social, scheduled for Wednesday, June 18, 2025, at Poe Paddy State Park. Guests are welcome to arrive anytime after 3:00 PM. We will be gathering at one of the park's two pavilions, so keep an eye out for the Penns Creek TU banner. Attendees are asked to bring a meat dish of their choice, along with a covered dish to share with fellow members. The Chapter will provide beverages; however, please note that alcohol is not permitted on park property. We plan to enjoy our meal between 5:00 and 6:00 PM, allowing ample time for some fishing on the beautiful Penns Creek. Winter Social
This year’s Winter Social will be held at Shy Bear Brewing on Thursday, December 19, 2024, beginning at 6:30PM. We will need RSVP’s for the event by December 11, 2024. Mifflin County Conservation District Watershed Specialist Bailey Coder will be providing a tour of ongoing projects. Interested chapter members should meet at Conservation District at 9:00 AM.

Chapter volunteers will be assisting with the Mifflin County High School Science Club and the Jr. High Conservation Club in a fall tree planting at Kish Park. Chapter members wishing to help will need to have their Youth Protection Clearances. The Chapter does have copies of completed clearances on file and will have them the day of the event. Meet at the park’s Grey Pavilion at 8:15 AM.
