Chapter Summer Social

The Chapter will be holding its annual Summer Social on Wednesday June 10, 2026 at Poe Paddy State Park (map). The social will be held in one of the two pavilions at the park, look for the Chapter Banner. Dinner will be between 5:30 and 6:00PM. Members are to bring their own meat to grill and also a covered dish. Spouses, guests and significant others are always welcome. Drinks will be provided by the Chapter.

Chapter Meeting

The May meeting presentation will be a short movie/video about Penns Creek that was created by Bernie Beegle. The video is from the mid-late 80’s and at that time, Bernie was a member of our chapter. Along with Bernie, chapter members Robert Ranck and Dennis Sieber are also a part of the video. The three men discuss their admiration for fishing Penns Creek, there are clips of them fishing, discussing hatches and talking about the stream and beauty of the area. It’s an opportunity to step back 35 years and watch three individuals who were extremely dedicated to Penns Creek.

Little Buffalo Women in the Wild

Chapter members will provide introduction to fly fishing (9am-10:15am and 10:30am-11:45am) and Macroinvertebrates (2:30pm-3:45am) at the Little Buffalo State Park. Juniata High School TIC Release

Juniata High School Release and Field Day Activities on Kish Creek (at Knepp Road off RT. 655).

Students are scheduled to release their fish between 9:30 and 10:00 AM, after which they will participate in field day activities in collaboration with PSU. From 12:45 to 2:00 PM, chapter members will offer an introduction to fly fishing and provide hands-on fly casting instruction for the students.

Chapter members will provide fly tying and fly casting instruction for students participating in the school's T.I.C. program. Three fly tying sessions of 30 minutes each beginning at 9:25 with 16+/- tiers each session at park office and 3 fly casting sessions of 30 minutes each. beginning at 11:45.

Stream Cleanup

Stream Cleanup

The Chapter will be doing a stream cleanup on Penns Creek on April 11, 2026. We will be working in conjunction with the RB Winter Trout Unlimited Chapter.

Chapter members and guests will be meeting at Poe Paddy State Park (near the tunnel) at 9:00 AM and will work around the tunnel area. We will be going thru the tunnel and work towards Cherry Run access area until about 1:30 PM.

We are then invited to join RB Winter Chapter members at the Union County Sportsman’s Club.

All members are invited to join us for the cleanup. We understand that this falls during the early weeks of trout season, but we believe that showcasing our conservation efforts may pique the interest of anglers to consider joining our Chapter. Attendees are asked to bring your own gloves and waders for the cleanup.

The featured speaker will be Mike Komara, a four-time World Fly Fishing Championship team medalist and founder of Innovative Angling, a guide service based in Central Pennsylvania. Mike will be sharing the skills and techniques learned over a decade of competing and fishing across the globe.

Annual Banquet

The Chapter's Annual Banquet will be held on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at the Belleville Christian School (formerly Belleville Mennonite School). Doors will open at 4:30 PM and dinner (turkey with all the trimmings!) at 6:00 PM. Adults $25 and Youth (less than 16 years old) $15. You can reach us via email at pennscreektu@gmail.com.

Jay Dunkelberger is a chapter member from the Spring Mills area. Jay will be giving a presentation on fly fishing Penns Creek. Jay fishes extremely often and catches an incredible number of trout each year from our local streams. Jay employs contact nymphing most of the time but is not limited to just that one technique.

Trevor Hackenberg will be speaking about the October Caddis, which occurs on Penns Creek. He will also be giving a tying demonstration. Trevor is a young individual who works for TCO in State College. Trevor is a talented fly tyer and angler and he gets to fish with some of the most talented anglers in Central PA.

Chapter Summer Social

The Chapter is excited to announce its 2025 Summer Social, scheduled for Wednesday, June 18, 2025, at Poe Paddy State Park. Guests are welcome to arrive anytime after 3:00 PM. We will be gathering at one of the park's two pavilions, so keep an eye out for the Penns Creek TU banner. Attendees are asked to bring a meat dish of their choice, along with a covered dish to share with fellow members. The Chapter will provide beverages; however, please note that alcohol is not permitted on park property. We plan to enjoy our meal between 5:00 and 6:00 PM, allowing ample time for some fishing on the beautiful Penns Creek.
